New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to gyms and fitness centres over unhealthy practices in such establishments. The commission has sent notices to state chief secretaries and the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs.

This action has been taken after receiving widespread complaints from gyms. Commission member Priyank Kanunge said that the Human Rights Commission has received complaints of serious crimes, including sexual harassment, being committed in many gyms in the country. The commission has directed that information regarding the laws and guidelines related to gyms and fitness centres be shared.

The intervention of the Human Rights Commission comes after allegations were made a few days ago that several women were being used for sexual and related activities in a gym in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
