Shamli: In a harrowing incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, police have arrested a man for the triple murder of his wife and two minor daughters. The accused, identified as Farooq, allegedly killed the victims and buried their bodies in a seven-foot-deep pit inside their home in Garhi village.

The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Tahira and her two daughters, Afreen (14) and Sehreem (7).

Police investigations have revealed a disturbing motive behind the killings. According to officials, Farooq was enraged because his wife had recently visited her parents' home without wearing a burqa. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he felt he had "lost respect in society" due to her actions.

Superintendent of Police (SP) N.P. Singh stated that the couple had been quarrelling frequently over financial struggles. "He told us that he was financially struggling. He also mentioned that his wife asked for some money, due to which they fought. After this, she went to her parents' home without wearing a burqa. After his wife came back, he started to feel that she was not interested in him, which made him furious, and he decided to kill her," SP Singh said.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of December 9 and 10. Officials report that Farooq had pre-planned the disposal of the bodies, having already dug a deep pit in the courtyard.

According to the confession, Farooq asked his wife to make tea late at night. When she came out, he shot her. The situation escalated when his two daughters woke up and witnessed the crime; he shot the elder daughter and strangled the younger one to eliminate witnesses. He then buried all three bodies in the pit and covered the area with fresh brick flooring to conceal the evidence.

The crime came to light after Farooq’s father, Dawood, filed a missing persons report on Tuesday evening. Dawood, who lives separately, became suspicious when the victims had not been seen for six days. When questioned by his father, Farooq gave evasive answers, claiming he had moved them to a rented house.

Following the complaint, police took Farooq into custody. Upon strict interrogation, he confessed to the murders. Police have since excavated the courtyard, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.
