The Serum Institute of India has sought the permission of the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to manufacture Sputnik V in the country. It has also sought approval for test analysis and examination.

"The Serum Institute of India (SII) put up an application to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Wednesday seeking permission to manufacture the COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, in India," a source told news agency PTI.

Sputnik V, which was given emergency use authorization (EUA) in April, is now being manufactured by Dr Reddy's Laboratories alone. The SII is manufacturing two vaccines, namely the Covishield and Novavax. Novavax is awaiting regulatory clearance from the United States.
