Hyderabad: Tension gripped Amberpet on Thursday night, February 19, when participants in a Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti procession raised slogans in front of Jamia Masjid during Taraweeh prayers, prompting a swift police response.

The incident unfolded around 10 pm as the procession passed the mosque. Local reports indicate the group shouted slogans while prayers were ongoing. Muslims returning from prayers gathered and countered with their own slogans. The exchange lasted about five minutes before police on duty intervened, dispersing both groups.

Extra personnel were quickly deployed to the area. Rakshita Murthy, DCP of the Secunderabad zone, arrived, spoke with Muslim elders, and urged calm. She said the issue started after some persons raised slogans, and an enquiry is being conducted.

“Situation is now peaceful, people should not believe rumours,” Murthy added.
