Purported social media videos of the violence in Kangpokpi show armed men with automatic weapons.

Kangpokpi: Fresh violence erupted in Kangpokpi, Manipur, on Friday, intensifying the already tense situation in the region. A group of individuals attacked the office of the Deputy Commissioner, and a police official was injured during the assault. The incident occurred in the Kuki and tribal-dominated district, further escalating tensions in the area. Police confirmed that the attackers marched towards the administrative headquarters in Kangpokpi and launched their assault, adding to the unrest in the region.

This latest incident follows recent protests in Saibol, where Kuki women demonstrated against the deployment of joint security forces, including the Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The protest, held three days earlier, was a response to a security operation on December 29, during which armed militants were cleared from the area, and their bunkers were dismantled. The operation has heightened local discontent, with large groups of women from nearby villages gathering to obstruct the forces, reflecting growing resentment in the community.
