New Delhi/Srinagar: The death toll is on the rise after terrorists began attacking tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Local media reports that around 26 people have been killed. 12 injured people are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag. The condition of five people is very serious.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the media that the death toll may rise. Tourists are from the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has left for Jammu and Kashmir to assess the situation firsthand. Upon arriving in Srinagar, he will hold meetings with state, military, and security officials and take further action accordingly.

The Home Minister is scheduled to visit Pahalgam tomorrow, where the recent terrorist attack occurred. A special team from the National Investigation Agency and the Northern Command chief of the Army will also reach Pahalgam tomorrow.

The Home Minister discussed the situation over the phone with the Prime Minister, who is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia. The Prime Minister has instructed that appropriate action be taken after evaluating the situation.

The terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam took place this afternoon. The shooting occurred in the Baisaran Valley, located about five kilometers from the Pahalgam hill station.

Terrorists opened fire on tourists who were horse riding. Initial reports suggest that there were three attackers. Tourists can only reach this meadow on foot or horseback.

Following the shooting, security forces took control of the area. The region was cordoned off, and an extensive search operation was launched to track down the attackers. Security checks on roads have also been intensified. Tourists were evacuated from the area to a safe location.

Meanwhile, The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
