Jabalpur/ Madhya Pradesh: A thief who had broken into a temple in Jabalpur's Sukha village was caught on video bowing to the deity's idol before making away with the donation box and other valuables.

The video was captured on the CCTV installed inside the temple's sanctum where a shirtless man with his face covered entered stealthily, before bumping into the deity's huge idol, NDTV reported.

Overwhelmed, he bowed to the deity as if he were seeking blessing of the goddess to avert troubles in the work at hand.

The thief on August 5 reportedly made away with the donation boxes, two big temple bells and offerings presented to the goddess by the locals.

The police are now studying the CCTV footage to catch the thief.

Since the video was uploaded on social media, netizens have been bowled over by the pious gesture of the thief.

One of those commented about the video on Twitter said it is not theft when a devotee seeks help from God during difficult times.

Another user said the thief kept alive his faith and carried out his business much like killing two birds with one stone.

A thief in another video couple of months ago was seen breaking into dance after stealing things from a hardware shop in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli.
