Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stayed the proceedings in the treason case against filmmaker Aisha Sultana from Lakshadweep. The court stayed the FIR and the proceedings over the case registered by Kavaratti Police.

The court issued the interim order based on the Supreme Court judgment in treason cases.

Aisha is facing a treason case after she made a remark against Lakshadweep administrator Praful Khoda Patel during a prime time debate with MediaOne channel while the Lakshadweep agitation was at its peak.

BJP leader Abdul Kader had lodged a complaint against her regarding her statement on the debate, and police lodged the FIR, charging Aisha with treason. Aisha Sultana was instrumental in exposing the anti-people policies pursued by the BJP government with the support of Sangh Parivar forces on Lakshadweep.
