Agartala: A 19-year-old student from Tripura, Sneha Debnath, has been missing in New Delhi since July 7, prompting an urgent response from Tripura Police following directives from Chief Minister Manik Saha.

Sneha, a mathematics student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College under Delhi University, disappeared after leaving her home in Delhi’s Saket area to receive a friend at the Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. According to reports, a cab driver dropped her off near the Signature Bridge in north Delhi, but her mobile phone was switched off shortly after. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Her family, originally from Bhuratali village in Sabroom, southern Tripura, has lived in Delhi for several years. Concerned for her safety, they filed a missing person complaint with the Mehrauli police station on July 9. Local media reports indicate she went missing from the Wazirabad area.

Following the complaint, Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag personally contacted the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, urging immediate steps for her rescue. A senior police official confirmed that the DGP is directly monitoring the case.

“The DGP personally contacted the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, requesting him to take steps to rescue the girl. The case is being closely monitored,” the official said.

Chief Minister Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, intervened late Saturday night after the case came to the attention of the Chief Minister’s Office. In a post on X, the CMO stated: “The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the Chief Minister's Office. Following this, necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action.”

Sneha is the daughter of retired military man Pritthis Debnath. Since her disappearance, her father has been actively pursuing the case with the Delhi Police and has sought the Chief Minister’s intervention. The family has expressed deep concern, noting that she left without any belongings, has not withdrawn any money recently, and her bank account has remained untouched, raising fears about her safety.

Sneha’s disappearance is being treated with urgency, with Tripura and Delhi Police working together to trace her whereabouts and ensure her safe return.
