Twitter handle of Weather Department gets hacked

There is a major effort underway to restore the tweets of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Twitter handle which was hacked on Saturday evening.

It was not immediately clear why the account was hacked.

This news comes at a time when IMD has been drawing a lot of attention due to India's ongoing intense heat wave.

IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, "We are restoring the Twitter handle after it was hacked."
