New Delhi: A 28-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat died by suicide leaving a suicide note written on her body accusing her husband and his family of dowry harassment, NDTV reported.

The woman, identified as Manisha, died after consuming poison on Tuesday night.

The note written with a pen on her arm, legs, and stomach detailed her anguish from harassment by her husband, Kundan, and his family.

‘Kundan and his family are responsible for my death, she wrote in Hindi.

In a video Manisha tearfully narrated how her husband and his mother, father, and brother, always harassed her for dowry.

They, she claimed, went on harassing her for a car and huge money nevertheless her family shelled out Rs 20 lakh for wedding.

Her family already gifted her husband with a Bullet motorcycle as dowry.

She alleged that her husband and in-laws beat her and forced her to undergo an abortion.

When she resisted their demands, they attempted to kill her through electrocution.

A few months after Manisha’s marriage in 2023 to Kundan, a resident of Noida, her in-laws began pressuring her for dowry, according to officials.

Manisha returned to her maternal home in July 2024 as it became difficult for her to live with her husband.

Manisha's family began discussing a divorce just before days before her death.

However, she made it clear she would not sign the divorce papers until her in-laws returned the dowry items, officials said.
