Bareilly: A 21-year-old bride in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly called off wedding after the groom garlanded her best friend.

Radha Devi left the venue after slapping the groom who showed up drunk at the wedding on Saturday, according to NDTV.

The groom, Ravindra Kumar, 26 arrived late for the wedding with his wedding procession, baraat.

The bride's family, according to the FIR, alleged that the groom’s family demanded additional dowry with Radha Devi’s father claiming that he had handed Rs 2.5 lakh during the pre-wedding rituals.

Despite giving another Rs 2 lakh on the morning of the wedding, the groom's family appeared to be not happy with it, according to the report.

It is also reported that Ravindra Kumar wanted to marry a woman of his choice and arrived drunk, misbehaving with bride’s family members.

The FIR said that the groom was drinking just as the rituals were underway, leading to garlanding the bride’s friend who was standing next to her.

A furious Radha Devi immediately slapped the groom and walked off.

In the fight that followed, the families of the groom and bride hurled chairs at each other with the police arriving at the venue.

The police detained the groom and his friends, charging them with ‘disturbing the peace’ alongside for insulting the bride's family.

Also, a case has also been registered against the groom for demanding dowry.
