Punjabi music star Rupinder Singh Grewal alias Gippy Grewal took to Twitter on Friday to lash out at what he claimed was a 'disappointing' response from Bollywood regarding the farmer's protests in Delhi.

"Dear Bollywood, now and then your movies have been shot in Punjab and every time you have been welcomed with an open heart. But today when Punjab needs you the most, you didn't show up and speak a word. Disappointed," the 37-year-old singer tweeted.

Singh has been a very active supporter of the protests and has repeatedly endorsed the agitations on social media. Farmers from Punjab have been protesting en masse in Delhi to repeal the newly passed farming laws, with a fifth round of talks with the government on the cards.

Actress Tapasee Pannu criticised the tweet, however, saying that it pulled down the efforts of those who had actually spoken up. In response, Singh tweeted that his words were meant for "them who call themselves as Punjabis [sic] and not even utter a single word."

With worldwide attention turned to farmer's protesting in India, Priyanka Chopra too shared a message in solidarity with the cause.

"Our farmers are India's Food Soldiers. Their fears need to be allayed. Their hopes need to be met. As a thriving democracy, we must ensure that these crises is resolved sooner than later," she tweeted.

Meanwhile, stars such as Swara Bhaskar, Parineeti Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Richa Chadda, Sonu Sood, Hansal Mehta, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Divya Dutta and Neha Sharma, have come out in support of farmers.
