Kochi: The People's Democratic Party has decided to support the LDF in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, PTI reported.

The decision was officially announced by PDP chairman Abdul Nasar Madani in a statement on Sunday after a state leadership meeting held in Ernakulam.

The statement said that the party has chosen to continue its stand of strengthening the Left and secular front to safeguard the secular fabric of Kerala against "communal and fascist forces" that are allegedly attempting to reshape the state's political landscape on the lines of prevailing trends in other parts of India.

The PDP also accused the Congress of indirectly aiding such forces by acting as "propagators of allegations" put forth by Sangh Parivar groups.

According to the party, the growing tendency to accommodate communalism poses a serious challenge to Kerala's future.

Leaders said the decision to back the LDF was taken based on political understandings reached during discussions between the PDP leadership and the Left Front.
