Kerala records liquor sales worth Rs 842 crore during Onam, six outlets cross Rs 1 crore mark
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Kerala witnessed record liquor sales during this year’s Onam celebrations, with total sales touching Rs 842.07 crore. The figure is a sharp rise from last year’s Rs 776 crore.
On Uthradam day alone, liquor worth Rs 137 crore was sold, compared to Rs 126 crore on the same day in 2023.
Six liquor outlets in Kerala registered sales of over Rs 1 crore on Uthradam day. The highest sales were reported from Karunagappally in Kollam district, with liquor worth Rs 1.46 crore sold. The Ashramam outlet recorded sales of Rs 1.24 crore, while the Edappal Kuttippala shop sold liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore. Chalakudy (Rs 1.07 crore), Irinjalakuda (Rs 1.02 crore), and Kundara in Kollam district (Rs 1 crore) were the other outlets that crossed the Rs 1-crore mark.
Between April 1 and September 4 of the current financial year, liquor sales in the state amounted to Rs 8,962.97 crore, compared to Rs 8,267.74 crore in the same period last year.
Super premium outlets also reported strong sales, with liquor worth Rs 67 lakh sold in premium categories during the festival season.
