Thrissur: A 41-year-old man was crushed to death by a truck in Kerala’s Thrissur while he was rescuing a cat stranded in the middle of the road on Tuesday night.

Footage from CCTV showed the deceased identified as Sijo Chittilapilly rushing to rescue the injured cat at around 10:30 pm just as the truck was approaching at high speed.

As Chittilapilly rushed forward, the cat sprinted to the other side of the road. Meanwhile, the truck hit him and dragged him for a few metres.

Though he was immediately transported to a hospital, Chittilapilly succumbed to his injuries.

An animal lover, Chittilapilly kept at least three cats and five dogs in his house, according to The Indian Express.

‘He does not socialise much, but we have seen him always caring for animals. He used to feed stray dogs in the place. Every day, stray dogs wait for him to keep their food on the roadside near his home,’ Chittilapilly's relative reportedly said.

Police have registered a case against the truck driver alongside launching a detailed probe.
