Kozhikode: The general secretary of the Muslim Youth League, PK Firos, condemned the provocative slogans raised by its workers during a march held as part of its statewide protests against the ongoing ethnic violence and political unrest in Manipur in Kanhangad, Kasaragod district.
"Calling the incident an "unpardonable mistake," Firos emphasized that the slogans were not endorsed by the party and were in direct opposition to its core ideology. He further informed that a member named Abdul Salam, allegedly responsible for raising the contentious slogans, has been suspended from the party."
The Muslim Youth League, the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), faced severe criticism for the slogans shouted during the demonstration.
A video clip from the rally capturing the inflammatory chants in Malayalam has gone viral. In the video, protesters can be heard shouting threats to hang someone at the temple altar and burn them.
The Kerala unit of the BJP responded to the incident, calling it a "worrying indicator of the Congress and its allies targeting Hindu society." The BJP issued a statement strongly condemning the shocking footage from the Kanhangad protest, labelling the chants aimed at Hindus as utterly reprehensible and unjustifiable.
The party further demanded accountability from senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for the actions of the party he identifies as "secular."
