Hours after jailbreak, Govindachamy nabbed from a well

Police have detained him after hours of nail-biting search for the notorious convict who had broken out of the jail in the wee hours today.
After noticing his absence at the morning head count at the jail, police sought the help of the people to trace him.
Visuals showed people joining hands with police in searching the man. Eventually they tracked him down in a well outside Kannur city.
It is reported that Govindachamy came out the jail after twisting the iron bars of the cell, before scaling down the wall.
Authorities had a hard time finding him with questions began pointing to the security vulnerabilities of the jail.
Govindachamy, serving life imprisonment for rape, has broken out of Kannur Central Jail early on Friday morning.
Police were after Govindachamy who is convicted of rape and murder of 23-year-old Soumya on a moving train on February 1, 2011.
Authorities found Govindachamy missing from a morning headcount in the 10 th block of the jail.
The Tamil Nadu native had been lodged in the high-security jail after his conviction.
Authorities have requested people to help trace the man who committed the crime on a passenger train from Ernakulam to Shoranur.
Back in 2011, the report of rape and murder rocked the state with police eventually tracking down Govindachamy.
A Thrissur Fast-Track Court in 2012 sentenced Govindachamy to death in 2012.
Later the Kerala High Court upheld the verdict in January 2014.
However, in 2016 the Supreme Court set aside the death sentence citing insufficient evidence to prove that he intended to kill the victim.
Govindachamy assaulted Soumay as she was traveling alone in an empty women’s coach from from Ernakulam to Shoranur.
He pushed her down off the moving train before raping her, leaving her in severe injuries.
Soumya died at a hospital, causing widespread outrage in the state.
