Kasaragod: Teachers at Kumbala Government Higher Secondary School allegedly stopped a student mime show in support of Palestine during the school arts festival on Friday, sparking protests by student organisations.

Police said two teachers intervened, asking students to stop the performance and pulling down the stage curtains. The move drew sharp criticism, prompting the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to convene a meeting on Saturday.

Activists of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF), the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), barged into the PTA meeting demanding action against the teachers, alleging that students were locked in a room to prevent the event. Members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) also staged a protest at the school.

Police removed the protesters and deployed personnel on campus to prevent further disturbances. Officials said the PTA is seeking to resume the arts festival while resolving the conflict.
