B'luru school booked for transferring students to govt school for 100% results
text_fieldsBengaluru: The Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against the principal and management of a private school in Bengaluru for allegedly transferring Class 10 students to a government school without informing their parents — a move reportedly aimed at securing a 100 per cent pass rate in the Board examinations.
The case was filed by the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru against Saint Mary’s Girls’ High School, following multiple complaints from parents. According to the police, at least 10 students failed their Board exams as a result of the transfer, primarily due to the absence of internal assessment marks.
Parents alleged that the students, who had been attending classes at Saint Mary’s, were transferred to a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Government School without their consent or knowledge. Since the students had not actually attended classes at the BBMP school, they were marked absent and denied internal assessment marks — a key component of the final evaluation — resulting in their failure.
Deepika, one of the affected students, spoke to the media on Thursday, revealing that she had been enrolled at Saint Mary’s since Lower KG. She said that at the time of issuing hall tickets for the Class 10 exams, school staff informed students that their examination centre would be at a different location and instructed them to appear at the government school instead.
After the results were announced, Deepika discovered that her marks card was missing the internal assessment component. “We approached the school regarding this, but received no response. When we asked for the transfer certificate (TC), the school management told us to collect it from the BBMP School. We don’t know why this happened. If I had received my internal marks, I would have passed,” she said. “This has happened to 10 other students from the same school,” she added.
Parents further alleged that despite paying full fees to Saint Mary’s, the school had transferred the students to the BBMP school and falsely declared them as orphans from an orphanage. They claimed they were completely unaware of the transfer until after the Board exam results were declared.
According to the complaint, this unauthorised and deceptive enrolment in the BBMP school not only stripped the students of internal assessment marks but also caused serious emotional and academic distress.
The police have launched an investigation into the allegations. As of now, the school management has not issued any statement in response to the charges.
