Human lifespan can go well past the current record of 122 years. A new study has claimed that men can live up to 141 years and women can live up to 130 years.

People born in the first part of the 1900s have a lower rate of mortality increase with age. "The "maximum age at death will increase dramatically in the coming decades as surviving members of these cohorts reach advanced old age." A researcher at the University of Georgia analysed the mortality of older people in 19 nations and found that the increase in mortality rates by age differs between cohorts born in different years.

According to David McCarthy, mortality postponement appears to dominate for those born between 1910 and 1950. The eldest people in these cohorts may live up to 120 or beyond. "As these cohorts attain advanced ages in coming decades, longevity records may increase significantly. Our results confirm prior work suggesting that if there is a maximum limit to the human lifespan, we are not yet approaching it," says the paper published in the journal PLOS One.

Advances in medical science and the wide availability of nutritious food are also likely to contribute to longer lifespans.
