Meerut: A 30-year-old man died allegedly due to a lack of timely medical attention at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, leading to the suspension of two junior resident doctors and the formation of two separate inquiry committees to investigate the incident.

The deceased, Sunil, a resident of Hasanpur Kala village, was injured in a road accident on Sunday night. He was brought to the hospital’s emergency ward at around 12:30 AM, but reportedly did not receive adequate treatment and succumbed to his injuries by 8 AM on Monday. His family claimed that doctors and staff on duty were asleep and failed to attend to him despite his critical condition.

Outrage over the incident intensified after a video allegedly showing one of the doctors asleep during duty hours surfaced on social media. In response, the medical college administration suspended junior resident doctors Bhupesh Kumar Rai and Aniket with immediate effect.

LLRM Medical College Principal R.C. Gupta confirmed that a three-member internal committee has been constituted to probe the allegations. The panel, which includes Dr. Anupam Verma, Assistant Professor Shashank Jindal, and Assistant Professor Kritesh Mishra, is expected to submit its findings within three days.

Simultaneously, the Meerut District Magistrate initiated a separate inquiry. This panel comprises Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kataria, ADM City Brijesh Singh, and ACMO Dr. Praveen Gautam.

This latest incident adds to a series of recent disciplinary actions taken against Uttar Pradesh health officials for medical negligence and misconduct. In May, a newborn died after falling from a delivery table in Kanpur Dehat, leading to the dismissal of a nurse and suspension of a senior resident doctor. In June, five doctors in Bachhrawan, Raebareli, were dismissed for neglecting patients, and others faced penalties for prolonged unauthorized absence and indiscipline.

July witnessed further crackdowns, including the suspension of a nurse in Farrukhabad for allegedly extorting money from patients, and disciplinary action against several doctors across the state for private practice, malpractice, bribery, and administrative failures. In Kanpur, the Additional Chief Medical Officer was also suspended for alleged corruption.
