Gangtok: Sikkim University has introduced a policy granting one day of menstrual leave per month for female students, as per a notification issued by Registrar Laxuman Sharma on December 4. This move follows a representation made by the Sikkim University Students' Association (SUSA) last month.

The notification states that the Vice-Chancellor has approved the measure, which will apply to female students except during university examinations. The registrar noted that any leave taken under this policy would be factored into the mandatory 75 percent attendance requirement needed for examination eligibility.
