Dhofar Municipality has launched a series of development projects worth more than OMR2.85 million to enhance scenic overlooks in Salalah, Rakhyut and Dhalkut, along with a new public park in Shahb As’aib. The initiatives aim to strengthen the governorate’s tourism appeal, improve recreational facilities and preserve its natural environment.

According to Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Ba’owain, Director General of Projects and Technical Affairs at Dhofar Municipality, the Aftalqut overlook project in Salalah has reached 30% completion. The OMR992,000 project includes rest areas, restaurants, walkways, landscaping and public facilities at a mountain site overlooking the sea.

In Rakhyut, work on the second phase of the Shaat overlook has reached 32%. The project, valued at more than OMR1 million, involves constructing rest areas, viewing platforms, expanded parking lots and landscaping on a mountain slope overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the Dhaym overlook in Dhalkut, with an estimated cost of OMR346,000. Plans include walking paths, seating areas, parking lots and environmental beautification.

In addition to scenic overlooks, Dhofar Municipality is building a public park in Shahb As’aib, Rakhyut. With a budget of OMR468,000, the project has reached 55% completion and will feature recreational spaces designed for families and visitors.

The municipality said the projects are planned with other authorities to match the natural and geographical features of each wilayat. In Salalah, development focuses on sites overlooking the sea and highlands, while Rakhyut highlights rugged mountain formations and Dhalkut prioritises serene coastal areas.

By combining infrastructure upgrades with natural preservation, the governorate seeks to enhance year-round tourism, create vibrant community spaces and provide economic benefits for local residents, in line with Dhofar’s integrated development programme.
