Oman mandates licences for food delivery agents from September 1
text_fieldsStarting September 1, food delivery drivers and supervisors in Oman must have a professional licence from the Ministry of Labour’s logistics sector skills unit, Atheer Oman reported.
The regulation applies to all companies, whether local, regional or foreign. Authorities confirmed that no work permits for delivery staff will be issued or renewed unless a valid license is obtained.
Licensing fees will start at 20 Omani rials for job seekers. Nationals will pay lower rates than expatriates as part of efforts to encourage Omanis to enter the profession. Applications must be submitted electronically through the ministry’s logistics platform.
Zaher bin Abdullah Al Sheikh, Director of Professional Standards at the Ministry of Labour, said the new rules are aimed at standardising the sector. He added that the measures are intended to promote fair competition and improve service quality.
“Every company must secure a license for its delivery staff and supervisors without exception. No firm will be granted special treatment,” he said.
Penalties for companies and workers who fail to comply are strict. Fines will range from OMR 1,000 to 2,000. Non-compliant workers may face deportation, while company licenses can be suspended for up to two years. Offenders may also face prison terms ranging from 10 days to one month.
Officials confirmed there will be no extensions to the compliance deadline.
