Qatar: Local dates festival ends 10th edition with over 90,000 visitors
text_fieldsThe 10th Local Dates Festival, organized by the Ministry of Municipality in partnership with Souq Waqif Management, wrapped up on August 7 after a two-week run that began on July 24. The event drew more than 90,600 visitors, reflecting strong public interest in local agricultural products.
A total of 114 farms from across Qatar took part, offering various date varieties and other fresh produce. The festival also featured interactive competitions for visitors and farmers, creating a vibrant atmosphere and encouraging community engagement.
According to the Ministry of Municipality, total date sales reached 170,403 kilograms. Khalas was the best-selling variety at 75,658 kg, followed by Shishi (33,057 kg), Khneizi (31,232 kg) and Barhi (18,772 kg). Other varieties accounted for 12,684 kg, while fruit sales counted 2,057 kg.
Organizers said the festival continues to play a key role in promoting local products, supporting palm cultivation and enhancing production quality. They noted its contribution to agricultural sustainability, food security and the preservation of Qatar’s agricultural heritage.
The annual event is regarded as an important platform for energizing the agricultural sector and fostering a culture of sustainable consumption in the country.
