King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah has launched a three-day Digital Communication Conference under the theme “Communication: Media and Beyond”, bringing together over 140 researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders from 13 countries. The event, inaugurated on Tuesday, is held under the patronage of Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah.

Organized by the university’s College of Communication and Media, the conference aims to explore the evolving landscape of digital media, with sessions addressing artificial intelligence, immersive user experiences, podcasting techniques and data analytics for public sentiment analysis.

The opening session, titled “Government Communication in Crises”, was led by Dr. Mohammed Al-Abdulaali, Assistant Minister of Health and the ministry’s official spokesperson. Drawing on Saudi Arabia’s COVID-19 response, he stressed the value of transparency, data-driven messaging and combating misinformation through coordinated communication across platforms.

The conference program includes 13 sessions, interactive workshops and an exhibition titled “Journey of Impact”, showcasing milestones in digital communication. A postgraduate research parade and advisory sessions further enrich the academic experience.

KAU President Dr. Tareef Al-Aama highlighted the university’s strategic focus on digital transformation, emphasizing initiatives such as smart campus infrastructure and partnerships that align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals. He noted the university's efforts in fostering innovation in AI, cybersecurity and media technology, while supporting youth through tech incubators and digital literacy campaigns.

Dean Ayman Bajnaid described the conference as a transformative platform aimed at redefining global media education. He emphasized the growing need for professionals who can balance technical skills with ethical communication practices.

The event also underlines KAU’s global engagement through collaborations with leading technology firms, media organisations and government entities, reflecting its commitment to nurturing a new generation equipped to tackle digital-age challenges.
