The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh has earned a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest continuous pedestrian skywalk network.

The 15.46 km skywalk system connects 95 buildings through 42 climate-controlled bridges, offering uninterrupted year-round pedestrian access.

The skywalks rise above street level and link directly to the Riyadh metro. This allows people to move across the district without facing traffic or harsh weather.

The project used 30,000 square meters of glass and over 3,000 tonnes of steel. It took more than 5 million safe work hours and involved 1,200 workers.

The network connects offices, residences, retail spaces, restaurants and entertainment spots. This encourages walking between work, home and leisure locations.

“This recognition by Guinness World Records affirms KAFD as a platform for urban development,” said Faddy AlAql, chief asset delivery officer at KAFD Development and Management Co.

Mbali Nkosi, adjudicator for Guinness World Records, said, “First set in Minneapolis in 2016, this record has now been redefined by KAFD. In an era where sustainability drives innovation, KAFD’s skyway network sets a new benchmark for walkable urban design".

KAFD is home to over 90 local and international firms, including 19 regional headquarters like Goldman Sachs, Bain & Company and PepsiCo.
