Saudi announces Eid Al Adha on June 6, Hajj starts June 4
text_fieldsRiyadh: Saudi Arabia has officially announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon, marking the beginning of the Islamic month during which the annual Hajj pilgrimage is performed. According to the Kingdom’s Supreme Court, the first day of Dhul Hijjah will commence on Wednesday, May 28.
With this announcement, the Hajj pilgrimage will begin on Tuesday, June 4, as pilgrims assemble in the Tent City of Mina. The Day of Arafah, considered the holiest day in Islam, will fall on Wednesday, June 5, followed by Eid Al-Adha celebrations on Thursday, June 6, for Muslims not performing the pilgrimage.
In preparation, the Supreme Court had earlier urged residents to look for the crescent on Dhu Al-Qa’dah 29 and report sightings to the nearest court.
The Saudi government has also declared a weeklong Eid holiday for both public and private sector employees.
