Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli approval of 19 West Bank settlements
text_fieldsSaudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the Israeli government’s approval of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. The ministry said the decision violates UN resolutions and called for international action to stop the plan.
The statement reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for the Palestinian people and its position on establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital, citing the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.
The announcement followed last week’s decision by the Israeli Cabinet to approve the new settlements, a proposal put forward by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. The list includes Ganim and Kadim, two sites near Jenin that were evacuated in 2005 under the disengagement plan.
