Saudi Arabia: Smart tech enhances crowd flow, safety during Hajj
text_fieldsThe Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites, in partnership with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, is leveraging advanced satellite imagery, geospatial artificial intelligence and real-time data to optimise crowd management during this year’s Hajj season.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the innovative system monitors human and vehicular movements, particularly at Makkah’s entry points, to analyse traffic flow and peak congestion periods. This data-driven approach aids in tracking crowd density around the Grand Mosque and predicting movement patterns along key pilgrimage routes.
Authorities said the technology allows for swift decision-making by offering accurate, real-time insights, thereby enhancing safety, regulating mobility and improving coordination between field teams.
The initiative marks a significant advancement in the use of geospatial technologies, providing a strategic model for efficient and safe Hajj operations.
