Saudi Arabia is executing renewable energy projects at costs lower than those in China and India, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced during the International Workshop on Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Exports held in Riyadh on Sunday.
“Saudi Arabia has become cheaper than China and India”, the minister said.
“As I always say: catch up with us if you can".
Prince Abdulaziz pointed to the Kingdom’s competitive edge in green hydrogen production, battery technologies and clean energy deployment. He noted that Saudi Arabia is matching China in battery manufacturing and surpassing it in cost efficiency. He cited the Bisha battery project and the latest tender round as examples of this progress.
Last week, Saudi Arabia signed renewable energy agreements with a combined capacity of 15 gigawatts, securing some of the most competitive prices globally. The minister said the Kingdom is delivering large-scale solar and wind power projects at record-low costs.
Prince Abdulaziz confirmed that Saudi Arabia has already begun exporting green hydrogen, reinforcing its leadership in the clean energy transition. The country is also developing battery energy storage projects with a total capacity of 48 gigawatts.
Beyond renewables, the Kingdom is advancing carbon capture projects, including infrastructure for pipelines and ramping up gas production. It is also upgrading its power generation systems with what the minister described as the most efficient technologies available worldwide.
