Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Friday that reaching a permanent ceasefire in Gaza is the top priority, during a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.

Prince Faisal is on an official visit to the Russian capital, which began Thursday, as Saudi Arabia and Russia continue diplomatic discussions amid rising regional and international tensions.

During the press conference, the Saudi minister also spoke about the importance of restarting negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program. He urged Iran to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Lavrov announced that Russia hopes Saudi Arabia will attend the first Russian-Arab Summit, scheduled to be held in Moscow this October. He also said that the eighth ministerial meeting of the “Russia–GCC Strategic Dialogue” will take place in Sochi on September 11.

Lavrov welcomed Saudi Arabia’s participation as Guest of Honor at the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He noted that 2025 marks 100 years since the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a milestone both sides have recognized as a sign of growing ties.
