Saudi Arabia has called the two-state solution the only way to achieve justice, security, and lasting peace in the region, during a major United Nations conference co-hosted with France.

Speaking at the event, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar, said the suffering in Gaza, unrest in the West Bank, and insecurity in Israel highlight the urgent need for a new approach.

“This is not just a diplomatic stance—it is a moral, strategic, and practical necessity,” she wrote on X.

She said Saudi Arabia has long supported a peaceful settlement to the conflict, referring to the Arab Peace Initiative and stressed that peace in the region cannot be separated from justice for Palestinians.

“The two-state solution matters because it tackles the core of the issue—the denial of Palestinian self-determination and the ongoing violence that breeds extremism", she said.

The conference was held against the backdrop of Israel’s military offensive on Gaza, which began after the October 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people and led to the abduction of around 250 hostages. Since then, Israeli attacks have killed more than 60,000 Palestinians and displaced nearly two million, according to local and international sources.

Israel has faced international criticism over its actions, including an 11-week blockade of humanitarian aid earlier this year and deadly attacks on civilians gathering at aid distribution points.

UN aid convoys and air drops have resumed in recent days following global pressure and calls for accountability.

Princess Reema warned that famine is looming and described the humanitarian toll as staggering.

“A two-state solution is the only path to stop the violence, rebuild Gaza, and offer a future that people on both sides can believe in”, she said.

She added that the ongoing war and regional unrest show how critical the moment is for serious political efforts.
