Dubai metro deploys AI robot for rail track inspections
text_fieldsDubai has introduced an AI-powered robotic inspector named ARIIS (Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System) to enhance the safety and efficiency of its Metro network, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Thursday.
The advanced robotic platform uses LiDAR sensors, lasers and 3D cameras to autonomously scan rail tracks and associated infrastructure without disrupting metro operations. According to the RTA, the deployment of ARIIS has increased operational efficiency by 75%.
“Thanks to ARIIS, we can now conduct inspections more frequently and effectively, with significantly reduced human intervention,” the RTA said in a statement. The authority revealed that the usual 2,400 man-hours required for manual inspections can now be cut to 700 hours with the robotic system.
Additionally, manual inspection efforts can be reduced by up to 70%, while infrastructure assessment accuracy has improved by 40%. The system is also equipped with predictive and proactive maintenance capabilities, enabling early detection of potential issues before they escalate.
The introduction of ARIIS aligns with Dubai’s smart mobility goals and underscores the city’s commitment to leveraging innovative technology in public transportation.
