Dubai RTA launches AI-based traffic signal control system

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new AI-powered traffic management system known as UTC-UX Fusion, aimed at easing congestion and improving travel efficiency across the city. This advanced traffic signal control system uses a combination of artificial intelligence and digital twin technology to make real-time adjustments based on live traffic conditions and predictive modelling.

The system marks a major move toward smarter urban mobility by enabling dynamic control of traffic signals. By simulating traffic scenarios before changes are applied on the ground, UTC-UX Fusion allows for more precise signal coordination, especially at busy junctions and during rush hours. The integration of future sensor data ensures the system remains adaptive and continuously optimized.

With its ability to forecast traffic patterns and adjust signal timings accordingly, the new platform is expected to deliver noticeable improvements in overall traffic flow. Early assessments suggest it could reduce travel times on major roads by as much as 20 percent, while also enhancing intersection performance and managing peak-hour congestion more effectively.

The initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to implement data-driven solutions for smart city development and sustainable urban transport.
