Self-driving taxis are set to hit the streets of Dubai by 2026 as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) ramps up its collaborations with leading autonomous vehicle technology firms. The initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to integrate autonomous transport solutions across the emirate.

The deployment of autonomous vehicles (AVs) will be facilitated through the Uber platform, following new agreements with Uber Technologies, Chinese tech giant Baidu—via its autonomous mobility division Apollo Go—and WeRide, a global leader in self-driving technologies.

“These partnerships represent a crucial step in advancing Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to transform 25 per cent of all journeys in the city into autonomous trips across various transport modes by 2030", said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA.

This development is a key element of RTA’s larger vision to position Dubai as a trailblazer in autonomous mobility. It also aligns with the city's ambition to become the smartest city in the world and the best place to live and work.
