UNESCO invites nominations for the UNESCO-Carlos J Finlay Prize for microbiology

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is welcoming nominations for the UNESCO-Carlos J Finlay Prize for Microbiology.
This prestigious prize is designed to honour individuals, institutions, non-governmental organisations, or other entities that have made significant research contributions and achievements in the field of microbiology and its applications.
Nominations for this esteemed prize are to be submitted by the governments of member states through their national commissions or by non-governmental organisations officially partnered with UNESCO. It's important to note that self-nominations will not be considered for this application.
Nomination submissions should include a formal application form along with a written recommendation. The recommendation should provide a comprehensive overview of the candidate's background and accomplishments, a summary of their work or research findings, including relevant publications and supporting documentation, and a clear description of the candidate's contributions to the objectives of the prize.
The UNESCO-Carlos J Finlay Prize for Microbiology is generously funded by the government of Cuba.
The University Grants Commission has issued a directive to Higher Educational Institutions, urging them to forward nominations to the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU), Ministry of Education. All applications must be submitted to UNESCO no later than October 20, 2023.
It is essential to ensure that the nominations include the candidate's curriculum vitae (CV) along with all necessary supporting documents. The University Grants Commission has clarified that it holds no financial liability for sponsoring the prize.
In a previous initiative, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) had also invited applications for the Young Professionals Programme 2023 with the goal of enhancing the geographical representation of the Secretariat. The application deadline for this program was set for October 31, 2023. This process aimed to select a maximum of 15 qualified applicants who met the necessary eligibility criteria.
