text_fieldsAhmedabad: Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined ₹24 lakh after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The match, held on Wednesday, saw Gujarat Titans secure a dominant 58-run victory. Chasing a target of 218, Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs.
According to an official IPL statement released on Thursday, "Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 23 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans."
The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate offences. As this was Rajasthan Royals' second over-rate violation of the season, Samson faced a steeper fine of ₹24 lakh.
Furthermore, the rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, have each been fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees—whichever is lower.
Following this match, Gujarat Titans now top the IPL 2025 standings with four wins from five matches. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have slipped to the seventh position with just two wins and three losses in their five outings so far.
