Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has officially launched the Lovlina Borgohain Boxing Academy in Barchandra, North Guwahati - marking a major milestone for boxing in the region.

The academy, inaugurated on Wednesday, is the first facility of its kind in the city and is set to train aspiring boxers from across Assam and the northeast.

Built on land Lovlina purchased in 2021, the academy is equipped with a professional 26x26 boxing ring and a fully outfitted gym. It aims to nurture talent at the grassroots level and create a strong pipeline of competitive boxers for national and international arenas.

“My dream is to produce quality boxers who can compete at national as well as international level by 2028," Lovlina said, adding that she used her personal funds to get the centre up and running after the 2024 Olympics.

At the inauguration event, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a ₹2 crore grant for the academy's development. “This academy is a vital step towards identifying and developing the next generation of champions from Assam," Sarma said.

In addition to the financial assistance, Sarma pledged further help in acquiring land and funding hostel construction for athletes. He also assured support in covering salaries for coaching staff and future expansions of the facility.

With a nominal monthly fee of ₹500, the academy will offer training programs for three age groups: 8–12, 13–18, and 18 and above—making it accessible to young talent from diverse backgrounds.
