Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The event started in the Narendra Modi Stadium there, will witness 7,000 athletes from 36 states/UTs competing, and it is scheduled to end on October 12.

During his speech at the opening function, PM Modi claimed that the BJP-led NDA government increased the budgetary allocation for sports and the same resulted in Indian sportspeople conquering glory at international levels at present.

Modi said, "Earlier our sportspersons were participating in 25 disciplines in 100 international events, which has now gone up to 40 disciplines in more than 300 international events. The government is also planning to make use of retired sportspersons' skills to train the new generation."

"Constant efforts are being made to encourage and promote sports in the country now. If the youth achieve success in the field of sports, they can succeed in other fields as well," he said.

Modi advised athletes to focus on three Cs, namely competition, commitment and continuity. These three will help them achieve success in life, he said.
