Following public and internal calls for removal, Apple fired its employee Antonio Garcia Martinez for the misogynist statements he made in the past. Martinez, who had also worked at Facebook as a Product Manager, had authored a book on the Silicon Valley where he allegedly expressed misogynistic opinions on women.

"We are deeply concerned about the recent hiring of Antonio Garcia Martinez," reads the petition signed by over 2,000 Apple employees.

Following the petition, Martinez's slack account was deactivated, and after an emergency meeting with the ad platforms team, it was confirmed that Martinez would no longer work with Apple.

"At Apple, we have always strived to create an inclusive, welcoming workplace where everyone is respected and accepted. Behaviour that demeans or discriminates against people for who they are has no place here," an Apple spokesperson said.
