Google has officially launched the stable versions of its Gemini 2.5 AI models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, making them accessible to all users — including those on the free tier.

The announcement marks a significant expansion of the company’s AI offerings and includes the preview release of Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite, which is being touted as Google’s fastest and most cost-efficient model to date.

In a recent blog post, the tech giant revealed that the previously preview-only Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash models are now generally available. These models had been undergoing testing, where users could access limited capabilities and were more likely to encounter errors.

With the stable release, Google says users should experience a more reliable and complete performance.

Importantly, while Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will maintain access to Gemini 2.5 Pro — with Pro users receiving up to 100 daily prompts and Ultra users getting even more — the same model is now also available to users on the free tier. However, free users will have a lower daily usage limit.

As a result of this change, preview tags will be removed from the Gemini model selector on both the website and the app. Free users will now see options including Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.5 Pro, and the Personalisation Preview model, which is capable of using a person’s Google Search history to provide more tailored answers.

Alongside these releases, Google has also introduced Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite in preview.

The lightweight, high-performance version builds on Flash 2.0 and is optimised for tasks requiring low latency, such as translation and classification. According to Google, Flash-Lite outperforms its predecessor in areas like coding, science, mathematics, reasoning, and multimodal tasks.

Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite includes advanced features consistent with the broader 2.5 family, including multimodal input, dynamic reasoning across different token budgets, integration with Google Search and coding tools, and a massive context window of up to one million tokens.

Currently, Flash-Lite is available through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI — the same platforms that now host the stable versions of the Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash models. Google has also started integrating the Flash and Flash-Lite models into its Search platform, further broadening the reach of its AI ecosystem.
