Beijing: Two people were killed and 66 others injured in a massive explosion at a steel plant in Baotou City, China, on Sunday. Five individuals remain missing following the incident.

The explosion, which occurred in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was reportedly so powerful that it caused “noticeable tremors” in surrounding areas, according to state-run Xinhua news agency. The cause of the blast is currently under investigation.

Video clips circulating on social media showed towering flames engulfing the factory. Among the injured, three were reported to be in serious condition, while the remaining patients received treatment in local hospitals.

Rescue forces from both the autonomous region and Baotou city were dispatched to the scene to carry out emergency operations.
