Hong Kong: A 34-year-old ground worker at Hong Kong airport was killed after being hit by a towed aircraft on Tuesday.

The unnamed victim is thought to have been in the passenger seat of the tow truck at the time of the accident, news agency AFP reported.

The rare accident occurred when the Jordanian national fell out of the truck after hit by the plane being towed behind it. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident caused an arrest for dangerous driving.

Emergency workers spotted the man lying on a taxiway with serious injuries early on Tuesday morning, the report said.

The airport authority confirmed the man was an employee at the ground support and maintenance firm China Aircraft Services.

‘It is suspected that the seat belt was left unfastened while the staff was working on the (vehicle),’ the authority reportedly said.

A 60-year-old driver was arrested pending investigation on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death, according to the report.
