Hamas to release American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander on Monday
text_fieldsDeir al-Balah: Hamas has announced that it will release the last living American-Israeli hostage, Edan Alexander, on Monday. The group did not provide further details about the release in its statement. This decision follows a Sunday announcement in which Hamas described the move as a goodwill gesture towards the Trump administration.
Israeli authorities have yet to comment on the exact timing of the release. However, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office confirmed earlier on Monday that Alexander’s release was expected, although it did not specify when. The office also stated that while Israel had not agreed to a ceasefire as part of the release, it would facilitate the creation of a “safe corridor” to enable Alexander’s release.
Alexander, an Israeli soldier, was captured on October 7, 2023. His family, based in the United States, is en route to Israel, according to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents the families of the captives.
