‘High value’ artefacts from India among 600 items stolen from UK museum

New Delhi: UK’s Avon and Somerset Police have appealed public's help to identify four white male suspects who made away with ‘high value’ items from a museum in Bristol.
More than 600 items stolen from the museum's British Empire and Commonwealth collection include artefacts from India dating back to the British Colonial era, NDTV reported.
The grainy CCTV footage of the incident that took place on September 25 between 1 am and 2 am showed four white male suspects at the site.
The police in statement said: ‘Detectives investigating a high-value burglary of museum artefacts are appealing for the public's help to identify these people.’
News agency PTI reported that the items stolen included ‘an ivory Buddha and a waist belt buckle’ of an East India Company officer.
Detective Constable Dan Burgan said the theft of items having ‘significant cultural value’ a loss for the city.
‘These items, many of which were donations, form part of a collection that provides insight into a multi-layered part of British history, and we are hoping that members of the public can help us to bring those responsible to justice. So far, our enquiries have included significant CCTV enquiries as well as forensic investigations and speaking and liaising with the victims,’ Burgan reportedly said.
The police issued the appeal for help more than two months after the burglary.
