Washington: The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he is “shocked” by the fatal shooting of two staff members at the Israeli embassy in Washington. In a statement released the same day, Netanyahu condemned the incident, saying, “We are witnessing the terrible price of antisemitism and wild incitement against Israel. The blood libels against Israel are costing blood and must be combatted to the bitter end.”

Following the attack, Netanyahu announced that he had ordered Israeli diplomatic missions worldwide to enhance their security measures.

The two embassy staff, a man and a woman, were shot and killed on Wednesday evening while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. According to Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, the suspect approached a group of four people before opening fire. After his arrest, the suspect reportedly shouted, “Free, free Palestine.”

The shooting has heightened concerns about antisemitic violence and threats against Israeli representatives abroad.
