Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would probably be visiting the White House for a meeting with him in February.

US President Trump announced PM Modi's likely visit while talking to reporters on Monday aboard Air Force One on his way back to Joint Base Andrews from Florida.

“I had a long talk with him this morning (Monday). He is going to be coming to the White House, over next month, probably February. We have a very good relationship with India,” US PresidentTrump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

The president was responding to a question on the phone call he had with PM Modi in the morning.

“Everything came up (in a phone call with Modi),” Trump told reporters when asked about the details of his call with Prime Minister Modi.

US President Trump's last foreign trip as president was to India during his first term.

US President Trump and PM Modi enjoy a good friendly relationship. The two addressed thousands of people at two different rallies in Houston in September 2019 and in Ahmedabad in February 2020.

PM Modi was among the top three world leaders to speak with US President Trump after his stunning electoral victory in November 2024.

Trump in his ‘productive’ phone call with PM Modi reportedly discussed his government’s concerted efforts to deport illegal immigrants from the US.

US President told reporters that PM Modi responded that India 'will do what's right' regarding Indian immigrants who came to the US illegally.

Indian side reportedly is working to materialize an early meeting between two leaders.

President Trump and PM Modi had a warm relations during Trump’s first term in office.

However, during his campaign, Trump called India "very big abuser" of trade and declared to impose heavy tariffs on Indian products.

A White House statement said that during his call with PM Modi, Trump: ‘emphasized the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and moving toward a fair bilateral trading relationship.’

It is to be noted that the US is India’s largest trading partner with two-way trade surpassing $118 billion in 2023/24.
