London: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his UK counterpart Keir Starmer on Thursday at the Chequers Estate, the official countryside residence of the British Prime Minister, as he commenced his official engagements during his fourth visit to the United Kingdom.

The leaders are holding wide-ranging discussions on the full spectrum of India–UK bilateral relations, along with key regional and global developments. A major focus of the talks is the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), particularly in the areas of trade, economy, technology, defense, innovation, climate action, education, healthcare, and people-to-people ties.

Later in the day, Modi is also scheduled to call on King Charles III.

Just ahead of their meeting, Starmer confirmed that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the UK will be signed on Thursday, describing it as a deal that will create new jobs and boost economic growth across Britain.

“Our new deal is a win for British businesses – slashing tariffs and boosting exports in everything from soft drinks and cosmetics to gin and whisky. It’s a win for British shoppers – bringing down prices and creating greater choice in Indian goods, such as clothes, shoes and food. And it's a win for British communities – spreading huge benefits to nations and regions across the UK, from Scotland to the West Midlands and the North-East,” Starmer said.

He added, “When I welcome Narendra Modi to the UK today, I know we're delivering a deal that's good for Britain and good for working people across the UK.”

Starmer cited new analysis estimating that the FTA could grow the UK economy by £4.8 billion annually and boost wages for working people by £2.2 billion. He also announced nearly £6 billion in new investment and export deals between India and the UK, which are expected to create over 2,200 jobs in Britain.

In his departure statement, Prime Minister Modi underscored the steady growth in the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. “Our collaboration spans a wide range of sectors, including trade, investment, technology, innovation, defense, education, research, sustainability, health, and people-to-people ties. During my meeting with Prime Minister Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer, we will have the opportunity to further enhance our economic partnership, aimed at fostering prosperity, growth and job creation in both countries. I also look forward to calling on His Majesty King Charles III during the visit,” Modi said.
